Brisbane Textile Art Festival

'Mrs Echidna' went to the Brisbane Textile Art Festival, which was held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Bank from Friday 25th June until Sunday 27th June.

The Textile Art Festival was a mecca for those serious about using textiles as an art medium - quite different from the October Stitches and Craft Show. There were some great workshops available, and very interesting demonstrations on all sorts of crafts.

Melbourne based Anne and George Kuzia of 'Crystals and More' made it possible for me to have some space on their stand - what incredibly generous and gracious people they are! Some of you may know them from other craft shows in many centres across Australia. They also have a web-based business in Melbourne, Victoria.

Yes, they have lots of crystals - George was demonstrating hot fix Swarovski, diamantes, and lots of other 'bling' for anything from wall hangings to garments and shoes; applicators - there was so much there I couldn't see it all! Anne is a master with Japanes Meshwork - absolutely fascinating. She also handles many Clover and Birch products to simplify the process. I was in awe of some of their work - you really need to check out their website

As well, Kate Morris was there - she is not only a Brisbane based professional quilter who has her own line in patterns; she also has incredible skills in felting and dyeing. The butterfly panels you see in the pictures are some of Kate's design. They are available from ' Crystals and More' as well.

The interest in my book 'Mrs Echidna's Dilemma' was overwhelming! I asked some of the people I spoke to at the Festival to write down some comments for my website. Here are some of those comments on both the book, and the original art work (quilts) which were on display:

'An amazing effort and very stunning'... Anne B

'Fantastic! Great school resource! Thanks.' K Andrews

'Wonderful! You must be so proud of such an amazing piece of work and book. Well done.' Michelle Watt

'Excellent tactile experiences with literacy'... CM

'Fantastic work. Bought your book and waiting for your quilt pattern.' Karen Watson

'Love your quilt and the book is delightful.' Judy Powell

'Just inspirational!' Anne R

'So inspiring! Looking forward to seeing your patterns.' Toni S
