     Title: School Visits

On Friday 12 August, Betty visited the Glen Aplin state school, which has about 100 students, presenting programs to 2 classes of students, from Prep to Grade 3. These children were so attentive, as all the animals are familiar to them in the bush in their surrounding district.

On Monday 15th August, Betty visited a 'two teacher' school at Severnlea. What a great school! The grades 1-3 students enjoyed the story, some singing and puppets, as well as sharing interesting facts about all the animals. Echidnas are very common in this area.  there are many sightings at this time of the year (August) as July-August is the breeding season.

The session with the Grades 4-7 group was quite different. After reading the story, Betty used a powerpoint presentation to analyse the story, and talk to the children about the writing, editing, and publishing process. As well, the children were shown how the illustrations were developed.  It was 'Book Week' for the school, and the children were creating their own narratives and illustrating them; the visit was most timely!
